According to bankruptcy laws it is required to take an approved pre-filing financial counseling session followed by an approved personal financial management course. Following are instructions for completing these required courses:
Course 1: Pre-filing Financial Counseling
This first course is to be completed prior to the filing of your bankruptcy. The purpose of the counseling is to help people understand and better manage their personal finances. The objective is education and financial counseling. This is a mandatory counseling session required by bankruptcy law and MUST be completed prior to the filing of your bankruptcy. It can be completed via the telephone or a good portion of it can be completed online.

Course 2: Financial Management
This course follows the first course and you have the option of completing it online or via telephone. The course is intended to educate people in sound money management principles. It is also intended to help you improve and rebuild your credit. You should allow two hours for the teleclass and there will be no test. The online class has timers to enforce the two hour time limit minimum. There are four modules that must be completed to receive your certificate.
